THE FRIGHTENING experiences of parents and grandparents caught up in a nine-vehicle pile-up after a heavy-goods vehicle (HGV) went out of control as it headed down a hill in Slane village were dramatically recalled yesterday.

HGV driver sent for trial

AN HGV driver has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a collision in which two men died on the M6 near Sandbach.

The family of a cyclist killed two years ago after being run over by a lorry is calling for improved European legislation to tackle cyclist deaths.

Eilidh Cairns was killed in February 2009 after being crushed under the wheels of a HGV as she cycled to work in Notting Hill, west London.
