Cannabis seized at the port of Ramsgate in drugs bust

CANNABIS resin worth an estimated £3 million was seized at Ramsgate port yesterday (Thursday). Officers stopped an Irish-registered lorry carrying approximately one tonne of the class B drug.

The drugs were discovered amongst a consignment of mushroom compost following a search of the vehicle and a 25 year-old man from the UK was arrested.

The lorry arrived on a ferry at 2.45pm from Ostend. UK Border Agency’s Criminal and Financial Assistant Director Malcolm Bragg said: “UK Border Agency officers work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to detect and prevent drugs from being smuggled into the UK. We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.”
