The transporter fell on its side at around 9.30pm and blocked the clockwise carriageway of the M25 between junction 24 and 25.
There were tailbacks of up to four miles going into Enfield after the road remained closed between junction 23 and junction 25 this morning.
Lanes two and three were opened at 2.15pm, and lane one and the junction 25 clockwise exit were opened just after 4pm today.
Diesel fuel from the transporter spilled on to the road, damaging the surface. There was also damage to the central reservation as a number of cars came away from the vehicle-carrier in last night’s accident.
Police officers, the fire brigade and paramedics attended the accident and engineers have been frantically trying to repair to the damage so the motorway can reopen.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem will be carried out in due course.
The accident is being investigated by the Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath.
