A FOREIGN lorry became stuck in a narrowRowley Regis lane which is used by drivers following sat navs to get onto the M5 prompting calls for traffic controls.
Councillor Bob Price, who residents have contacted about the issue, said drivers trying to get onto junction two of the M5 at Oldburywere being sent along the short cut by sat navs with many getting stuck.
David Johnson, who owns a property in the road, witnessed the latest incident, on Thursday December 1.
He said the lorry’s tyre exploded and the vehicle damaged an elderly sycamore which is protected by a tree preservation order as well as two walls.
The 50-year-old computer analyst said: “It’s being used as a rat run and it has been considered dangerous for a long time.
“This is one of several similar incidents over many years, but little has been done bySandwell Council to make it safer for pedestrians despite the road being identified as needing a target road speed of 15mph in the council’s own Walking Strategy document.
“There should be measures to protect pedestrians from heavy traffic and speeding traffic.”
Cllr Price visited the scene on Tuesday (December 6) and said the council would install a sign saying Moor Lane was unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles and look at reducing the speed limit to 20mph.
He said: “I fully support the residents.
“The biggest problem is sat navs are sending drivers down there and any that don’t know the area, particularly foreign drivers are getting stuck.”
