Trucking in Canada, What's the work like? 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hiya,

I'm just new to this site and found it by accident but it seems really good!
I was hoping someone could give me some info about getting work in Canada.
Had my Class 1 for about 3 years and work for W H Malcolm in Scotland.
I've wanted to work in Canada for a while now but have absolutely no idea where to start looking or applying for jobs, what area is best, what type of work is available or even if my license is any use over there.
The wife really wants to go to Ottawa, is that any good work wise?
Any anfo would be great!
Cheers! Scott.

You seem to view me as the fount of knowledge, Dave..

Anyway, Ottawa is difficult, or it is until you are resident here. Once you get that you can move anywhere although the PNP people don't like to see it.

The Prairie Provinces are the ones which offer most opportunities, although there are still some in the Maritimes that are hiring. The thing with the East is that you limit yourself a lot more on where you will be driving.

Best advice at this stage is simple. Make sure you are all aware of each others thoughts on the idea. Don't go off half cocked about it, and be sure you are all in agreement. If you decide to move then put your entire selves into the move, 100%, or there will always be cracks in your armour, and you will need to be together.

Fount as in fountain....

The Queen is still on our money out here, unlike there in Espana.. Shame I can't remember what is on those Euro notes and coins anymore...Must be because they are so memorable!

You would need to retake your test again here. That would be a 3 part test, air brake written test, class 1 written test and your practical includung pre trip and air brake checks. You may need a little more experience too before you would be considered under the workers direct stream for immigration.
