The old dawg was late getting away last night owing to Da Boss being unwell again.
Got into the yard to discover the main boss men still there so I took advantage of the quiet office to ask about the Ice Work this year. Now I have been fishing ever since the green machine carved the rates up and nicked all the work last winter, and have been kinda mentioning it for a few months. So last night was my first strafing run to find out the score.
Doug tells me that they have a meeting on Thursday about the roads, and that the talk on the tiles is that the first roads will be opened on Jan 19th, although they will be half weight roads to start with. The northern roads are, supposedly, coming along well so I could make it to Lac Brochet and Tudule Lake, maybe even Fort Severn which is on Hudson Bay!!
Also, he is actively getting some older vehicles serviced and ready to go. Trucks like the Western Stars with higher ground clearance than my nice shiny Pete..
It really sounds like they are making a concerted effort this year. He said he has 10 guys who will go up, including a few real stars. I reckon that it could be a good year, and the winter roads will fund Puffs 40th birthday present and my flights back in June or July.
Plus I may get some better videos this year so I won't only have 2 revenue ones on youtube!!
Sounds promising, doesn't it?
