Truck loaded with ammunition involved in Norwegian pile-up

A truck and trailer transporting air-to-air missiles for the Norwegian Air Force was involved in a recent pile-up in northern Norway, reports said Tuesday. In all, 10 vehicles - including two other trucks with trailers - were involved in Monday's incident in which two people sustained slight injuries, public broadcaster NRK reported.

The vehicles were driving in a convoy due to bad weather including heavy snowfall, and visibility was poor. Such convoying is standard practice in Norway in inclement weather.

The military posted guards overnight since the truck was damaged in the accident.

The missiles were secured prior to the transport and there was little risk they would have exploded over the accident, a military spokesman told NRK.

The military deployed a civilian haulier to transport the missiles, citing financial constraints but said that a military vehicle escorted the truck.
