When employees and customers showed up at two different truck stops Tuesday morning, they found the doors locked.

The closures were at the Teki Travel Court in Emmett Township and the Tekon Travel Plaza in Tekonsha. At the Teki Travel Court Tuesday trucks were still pulling in, many of them unaware that the well-known pit stop is now closed.

Jim Ott of Wisconsin says he is a pretty frequent visitor to the Tekon Travel Plaza, but when he got to the doors on Tuesday morning, he found them locked. The only explanation was a note on the door that says 'Closed until further notice, employees will receive pay-check in mail.'

Up the road it was the same sort of business, or lack thereof, at the Teki Travel Court, locked doors and gas pumps shut off.

Richard Hurst says he ate dinner at neighboring Clyde's Restaurant Monday night and says all was fine, but when he woke up for breakfast, the place was out of business.

“We've been coming here for a couple years,” said Hurst, “and got to know some of the waitresses.”

The sign says 120 people worked at the travel stop, they're now looking for work, something that Hurst says he didn't think anyone saw coming.

“If they did, nobody told me,” said Hurst. “I don't think the employees knew anything. I've been here several times, I don't think anybody had any clue at all.”
