Yes, you are right, but is it fair to bail out banks etc yet our last bastion of vehicle assembly, all be it for the Russian owner GAZ to go to the wall at a critical time in it's history as they are about to launch a viable electric version of their van. (If you get to see last nights Question Time ,links on their website, this made interesting points)
I also suggested that if there was funding for say the next 3 years perhaps an option could be for the workers and indeed the numerus suppliers to buy into the company sort of John Lewis stylii?
In 1980 a 21 year old Davey ,not long passed his HGV worked for Kennings near Colchester selling Sherpa Vans after a few months I moved to Arlington Motors near Romford and had the full range of Leyand product to sell (you may remember there was a recession then and the tale of Red Robbo and Sir Micheal Edwards)so nieve Davey equipped with both arse and elbow and a nice suit went about blazing the East End and South East end of London with a curious mix of vehicles.
I had modest success as the range included the mini van Marina Van all Land Rover nad Range Rover ( The latter being the most reliable of the entire range at the time)

It was also the time the much fabled Marathon was being replaced with the Road Train the Scammell Routeman 8 wheeler became a Constructor (I did sell a Leyland Octopus with a twin-bin Macklift at £5000 profit 10% for Davey as Leyland had issued support on the day I did the deal)
You may also laugh when you learn I sold the last FG model(The old threepenny piece shape cab) to a water distiller in Becton, no not Del Boy) and one of the last EA models but not a van as commonly used by the Royal Mail but a chassis cab with a dropside body

sadley the guy had a regular run from Ilford to Bristol delivering dexion shelving and from inside the cab the engine roar was like Concorde and that was only at 45MPH!
I did get to see a special launch of the Terrier replacement the Roadrunner in the West End and met Dennis Norden who wrote it ( he is about 7'6" tall) and featured Julie ( fresh fields ) McKenzie and the guy who played Compo!
For my sins I went on to sell Volvo for Rydales at Chingford and latterly Daf in Ipswich but I was driving a block loader by the time I was 25 so my sales career was relativly short and I left at an age most people were entreing that profession!

Ho Hum!
