Globetrotter celebrates 30th anniversary

The Volvo manufactured Globetrotter cab is this year celebrating its 30th anniversary and is still one of the leading choices for hauliers all over the world.
Since being introduced in 1979, the Globetrotter has being a common sight on the Volvo and now it is the preferred choice on nine out of ten new Volvo FH’s.

The aim of the Globetrotter cab was to offer a safer environment for drivers and initially it was thought that only a few hundred would be sold, but demand quickly grew.

Over 2,000 truck drivers helped develop the new cab by sitting in the mock-up and then answering questionnaires regarding different aspects of trucks. After eleven years of product development, the new Globetrotter cab was launched along with Volvo’s new FH truck series in 1993.

Claus Nilsson, President of the Europe division at Volvo Trucks said: "There’s no doubt that the Globetrotter cab has played a key role in Volvo’s success over the years. Safety has always been one of our core values, and this is a prime example of how our safety efforts pay off.”

The 1st Globetrotter was the real thing with absolutely stakcs of storage space.
The FH Globetrotter is a big step backwards with reference to available/usable storage space and this in the name of streamlining to save 0,0000? mpg If DAF can continue to supply good storage space without slanted windsreens why can´t Volvo ?

Oh I don't know. The original Globetrotter was the best, but that was when they were at their peak anyway, when they built trucks that were up to any job.

The original FH was awful because of the engine hump, but when they started making the flat floor with the drawer they were better.

But what the hell is the idea of having those cupboards over the top bunk in the XLs?

But surely, when they were putting the bunk or the cupboards in, wouldn't they have thought..."Hmm, you know what, this looks really crap.."?

The first FH's did not have them they were only added several yeras later because of all the complaints from drivers about the lack of storage space so they put those in as an after thought
