Ok, so we got back from Big Trout without too much more trouble. We had to swap a wheel from one trailer axle to another as there were 2 torn out tyres on the one axle, but that was pretty much it. We even had to reload on the way out!!
So now we are teamed again for Sachigo lake. Another fairly long run in. When we got going from Pickle Lake it was still pretty cold, -10 or so, but we were late getting away so we only did a few hours. We parked up on the landing from one of the lakes and had some kip. When we set off it was still -5 so the roads should be OK.
They weren't. I was leading and the sky was overcast which means there are no shadows on the snow. This makes it tricky to see the lines so I got almost up on top of a hill and the trailer slid a couple of feet into the ditch.
Out came the shovel and chains. Gerry decided to back down the hill and ended up right in the rhubarb again.
Then one of Podulskys came along, tried pulling Gerry out and ended up........
So after judicious shovelling, a grader came along and pulled me out without trouble.
It tried pulling Gerry but got stuck trying.
Next came a big loader. It tried getting Gerry out, then tried to get the Podulsky out and ended up....
If you look at the top-front of the loaders cab you will see an arm. That was Gerry leaning on the tree that the loader was stuck against while the driver cut the tree down.
I tried backing down the hill to give Gerry a tug and got stuck again so that was the end of that.
Eventually they called in the big guns.
Evidently, it got us out since I am writing this, but it took 11 hours, much swearing and shouting and the moving of many tonnes of snow.
Latest one was pulling a truck up the hill in Manitoba and having the chain snap and go through the windshield.
Oh dear!
