A truck driver from one of the Balkan countries, who covered more than 1,000 kms in 18 hours without a break, ate his tachograph charts, when he was stopped for speeding on a Swiss motorway.

The driver, 34, from an unspecified Balkan country, was driving an Italian-registered truck when stopped in the district of Tessin, in southern Switzerland.

When stopped the driver locked himself in the cab and began eating the tachograph discs in a bid to destroy the evidence.

According to local reports, he subsequently complained of stomach pains and an ambulance was called.

However, his actions appeared not to have had any serious effect on his health – nor did they prevent him escaping a conviction.
