Wincanton recently expanded its German network with the €15m (US$19.5m) acquisition of ELITransport and ELI-Lagerhaus, a transport and warehousing provider. The Koblenz-based company has a fleet of 100 trucks and provides warehousing and international groupage services for the industrial and consumer goods sectors. Last year, ELI reported an annual turnover of €20.5m and Ebitda of around €2m. Alexander Bauz, MD of Wincanton’s German operation told IFW: "ELI fits perfectly into our strategy. The geographic fit is also excellent. Koblenz is one of the regions where we wanted to increase our presence. "We are reviewing opportunities with other transport companies and if we can find the right company for a reasonable price, we will seek further acquisitions." Source IFW |

Bibby Distribution has won a logistics deal with Burgess Pet Care, managing its national distribution centre in Pollington near Goole. The deal covers the distribution of more than 35,000 pallets per year to both wholesale and retail outlets across the UK. Gary Sharp, divisional director for Bibby, said: "With Bibby personnel based on site, we can work with Burgess staff to drive down their costs and improve on our synergies." Burgess Pet Care MD Paul Miley said: "However good our products at Burgess Pet Care, it is meaningless unless our customer service is excellent. With the growth Burgess is experiencing, our partnership with Bibby gives me confidence we can meet this rising demand with industryleading service standards." Source IFW |

Redhead International has extended its services into Italy with a new deal with Milan-based logistics company Sogedim. In recent months, Redhead has also expanded to new premises in Paris and began a similar tie-up with Moldtrans Group in Spain. Redhead said the new deal would allow it to deliver a wide variety of goods into the Milan area from the UK in around three days. In its first month of operation, Redhead has already seen an increase in the volumes of goods being delivered through its twice-weekly scheduled service, which leaves its Bradford and London depots every Tuesday and Friday.
