Twenty five jobs have been axed as a transport company calls in the administrator after almost 30 years.
Boss Jonathan Rogers blamed the rapid escalation in fuel prices for the decision to shut down Rogers Transport, the haulage side of Rogers of Bedford. The Land Rover sales side of the business will continue unchanged. The Rogers family has been in business in Bedfordshire since the early 1900s and trucks bearing the name have been a familiar sight around Bedford since the haulage side of the company was set up in 1980. But owners have taken the decision to call in the administrators with the loss of 25 jobs. Mr Rogers said: "The fuel price increase is what has tipped the business over the edge. We can't argue with the oil companies, we have to pay what they tell us, but our customers are also feeling the pinch and they are not willing to pay higher prices. "Twelve months ago fuel made up 28 per cent of our operating costs, now it's 40 per cent. We just couldn't keep swallowing that." |
