Police investigating the discovery of a woman's body on a dual carriageway in Cambridgeshire have said they believe she may have been hit by a vehicle.

 The scene of the incident

A section of the A1 was closed after the find was made by motorists just south of Wittering, at about 0115 BST.

The woman is thought to have been on foot and police said she may have been hit by a lorry and the driver could be unaware of what had happened.

A police spokesman said officers were making attempts to identify the woman.

The road was re-opened following an examination of the area, just north of the junction with the A47, at 1100 BST.

"I would urge any drivers who used that stretch of road this morning to check their vehicle for damage and to get in touch if they find anything out of the ordinary," Sgt Lyndon Pickston, of Cambridgeshire Police, said.
