UK-based European logistics service provider TDG yesterday (September 18) announced it had secured a contract from VTech to operate its continental Europe end-to-end supply chain over the next three years. The latter is said to be one of the world's largest suppliers of corded and cordless phones.

TDG said the winning of that of €25m contract, which followed a "successful" year-long supply chain re-engineering project, covered the coordination of freight forwarding to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from VTech's manufacturing plants in Hong Kong and the transfer of goods from port to TDG's warehouses in that European country. Operational execution was based at TDG's platform in Nijmegen and VTech's platform in Weert, south of Eindhoven. From those locations TDG distributed to VTech's Benelux, German, French and Spanish markets.

"Our products have been so well received in the marketplace that our old route to market didn't have the capacity to meet the demand," explained Gilles Sautier, European CEO of VTech. "TDG's re-engineering project increased our capacity and helped us realise how we could improve our delivery performance."

TDG stated that in addition to organising the goods flow from manufacturer to large retail chains across Europe, it also provided value-added services such as customisation, reconfiguration and repackaging.

"We undertook a rapid four-week implementation last summer just before the start of VTech's peak season and, despite its complexity, have had services up and running successfully since then," said Tijmen Muijs, managing director TDG Benelux.
