The moment burnt out remains of train are finally pulled from the Channel Tunnel Like something out of an action movie, the metal carcass of a train is pulled from the Channel Tunnel, 21 days after an inferno left thousands of passengers stranded.
John Keefe, spokesman for Eurotunnel, said there remained up to 800 metres more shuttle in the tunnel which would be removed in parts. 'Although covered in soot and smoke, the metal wagons are intact, but what are damaged are the trucks inside the wagons, which were left completely burnt out.
Eurotunnel said the section of the shuttle which had been removed, along with those parts still lying in the tunnel, remain under the control of authorities until investigations are completed. Some 200 French and 100 British firefighters worked in cramped conditions as temperatures reached up to 1,000C. Source Daily Mail |
