The moment burnt out remains of train are finally pulled from the Channel Tunnel

Like something out of an action movie, the metal carcass of a train is pulled  from the Channel Tunnel, 21 days after an inferno left thousands of passengers stranded.
A 130-metre section of the fire-damaged freight train at the centre of the September 11 blaze was removed from the French side of the rail tunnel.
In one of the HGV shuttle wagons, the burnt out remains of a truck can be seen.

John Keefe, spokesman for Eurotunnel, said there remained up to 800 metres more shuttle in the tunnel which would be removed in parts.
'We don't know exactly how long it will take to remove, but it will be a question of which parts of the shuttle are easier to remove than others.

'Although covered in soot and smoke, the metal wagons are intact, but what are damaged are the trucks inside the wagons, which were left completely burnt out.
'What has been left really is a metal carcass.'

Eurotunnel said the section of the shuttle which had been removed, along with those parts still lying in the tunnel, remain under the control of authorities until investigations are completed.
Thousands of holidaymakers were stranded after the 16-hour blaze started on a Folkestone to Calais train about seven miles from the French side.
A total of 32 lorry drivers and train staff fled to safety, with six suffering smoke inhalation.

Some 200 French and 100 British firefighters worked in cramped conditions as temperatures reached up to 1,000C.
It was announced this week that more trains are now able to run through the tunnel, with another of the previously-closed sections of the north tunnel now reopened.
It means the overall capacity has risen from 170 trains a day to 210, meaning the London to Paris and Brussels high-speed Eurostar train services will be almost back to normal.
