On the roads suggested, the M62 corridor over the Pennines, which runs between Leeds and Manchester, should be expanded by adding another lane, they said. A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said more money was being spent on transport in the region than ever before. He said: "Good local transport is vital. This is why last November we announced £469m over the next three years for local authorities in the region to invest in highway maintenance and smaller local schemes. "In total, more than £1.2bn was dedicated to transport in Yorkshire and the Humber region last year - a rise of almost 40% on spending over the last five years." Source BBC News |
