Roadway Container Logistics (RCL) has been sold to a start-up haulage company, Aegeus Transport, for an undisclosed sum. Owner AP Møller Maersk confirmed it had accepted an offer for the UK container haulier, in order to focus on its core business. RCL had been owned by Maersk since its acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd in 2005. It has depots around the UK and employs around 440 staff. Maersk said it would remain a customer of RCL, having longterm commitments for container services. RCL MD Chris Lawrenson will step down, but is to remain for a time with the company. He said: "As an independent business, RCL will be well placed to secure new business contracts with the security of a continued partnership with Maersk Line." The sale is expected to be completed within the next month. Source IFW |
